If we look after the waters and land around us, we will be looked after in turn.
Get Involved
Community research tells us that the majority of people feel that having healthy rivers and streams is very important and want to do more to help keep waterways healthy.
If you want to volunteer - here's some useful links as a way to get started:
- Plant natives along streams and waterways
- Travis Wetland
- Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust (waterways issues, clean ups)
- Styx Living Laboratory Trust (water monitoring, planting, education; Brooklands
- Travis Wetland Trust (planting, weed busting; Travis Wetland, Burwood)
Sustainable Living programme
The Sustainable Living Education Programme runs courses that includes water conservation and pollution prevention.
External Advisory Group
The public awareness campaign to improve urban waterway health is a combination of work from Environment Canterbury, the Christchurch City Council and an External Advisory Group.
The External Advisory Group was set up for the purposes of contributing and sharing ideas around the urban waterway health project. Their valuable contribution and insight allow Environment Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council to find out what their representative organisations think about the project and its direction.
The External Advisory Group include:
- Martin Clements: representing Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust & Styx Living Laboratory
- Kate Hewson: representing University of Canterbury
- Ralph Ross: representing Christchurch Combined Residents Association
- Rob Lawrence: representing Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce
